The Observatory of public sector algorithms (Odap) creates and gathers information about automated-systems used by public agencies in France, to make them more transparent.

Our mission

Governments are increasingly using algorithms in critical public services, such as education, health, social benefits, immigration, and law enforcement.

But these algorithms remain opaque, poorly evaluated and poorly regulated.

Uncovering these systems and their impacts is essential to ensure our public services are accessible and equitable. It’s a matter of democracy and social justice: governments must be accountable for the policies they implement through algorithms.

What we do

Odap contributes to the transparency and independent evaluation of public algorithms and provides tools for civil society organisations and other collectives who fight for human rights and social justice.

Its first project is a register of algorithms (fr) used by government agencies in France.
